Discovery Plus gets price hike in U.S., first under Skydance ownership

Lifestyle and documentary platform Discovery Plus is raising its prices in the United States, marking the first price increase under its new parent company Skydance.

Starting today for new customers and running through November 12 for existing subscribers, the cost of Discovery Plus is increasing by $1 to $7 per month for the ad-supported tier and by $2 to $12 per month for commercial-free streaming of shows and documentaries.

The price increase has not trickled down to streamers who buy the service as part of a bundle. Wallet-conscious streaming service Philo offers Discovery Plus with HBO Max and AMC Plus in its Bundle Plus tier for $33 per month, a price that also unlocks more than 70 premium cable networks and over 170 streaming-exclusive channels.

The price adjustment is the first for a former Warner Bros Discovery streaming service since the company was acquired by Skydance earlier this month, but a source familiar with the matter said the increase has been in the works for a while. The adjustment was not influenced by the acquisition, which put WBD under the same owner as Paramount.

The changes come as Skydance, which recently completed its combination with Warner Bros Discovery (WBD), prepares to consolidate its portfolio of streaming services: Skydance Chairman and CEO David Ellison has already outlined plans to combine HBO Max and Paramount Plus into a single streaming application, although the company has not announced a timetable for completing that integration. Ellison has suggested that the company could offer a discounted bundle of HBO Max and Paramount Plus subscriptions while work continues on combining the two services.

The future of Discovery Plus, however, remains unclear: During a press conference earlier this month, Ellison and other executives did not address Discovery Plus or explain whether the service would remain available independently.

Discovery Plus primarily offers unscripted television programming from cable networks including Discovery Channel, HGTV, Food Network, TLC, Investigation Discovery, Animal Planet and Magnolia Network. The service also distributes selected CNN specials and other nonfiction programming.

Discovery Plus has maintained a separate identity from HBO Max, offering viewers access to lifestyle, home improvement, food, reality television and documentary programming without requiring a subscription to the company’s broader entertainment service.

The streaming platform has also developed a substantial subscriber base, although its parent companies have not regularly disclosed subscriber figures in recent years. Discovery Plus last reported 24 million global subscribers in March 2022, before the merger that created Warner Bros Discovery.

More recently, subscription research firm Antenna estimated that Discovery Plus had approximately 4.9 million paying subscribers in the United States as of August 2026. About half of those customers subscribed to the advertising-supported plan, according to Antenna.
