EXECUTIVE MOVES

TEGNA expands Tom Cury’s role to oversee KVUE, KENS

Local television broadcaster TEGNA is expanding the responsibilities of its station leader in San Antonio, adding the company’s local TV outlet in Texas to his oversight.

Starting this month, Tom Cury will lead day-to-day operations at KVUE (Channel 24, ABC) in Austin in addition to his normal job duties as President and General Manager of KENS (Channel 5, CBS) in San Antonio. He will take on the title of President and General Manager at both stations, TEGNA said in a press release on Wednesday.

At KVUE, Cury succeeds Byron Wilkinson, who was recently promoted to Vice President of Ad Sales for TEGNA’s Texas and Mid-South regions.

Cury has led KENS since 2015, overseeing the development of local programming and digital initiatives, including “Border Cowboys,” a streaming documentary about a high school soccer team, and “Texas High School Football Now,” a statewide streaming program.

The station also received the 2026 Texas Governor’s Award for community service, recognizing its decade-long involvement in local schools.

“Tom will bring our Austin and San Antonio teams closer together, creating more opportunities to collaborate while ensuring each station continues to reflect and serve its unique community,” Brad Ramsey, the Senior Vice President and Group General Manager at TEGNA, said in a statement.

Before joining KENS, Cury served as Director of Sales at WFAA (Channel 8, ABC) in Dallas. He previously held sales leadership positions in Baltimore, Miami, Los Angeles and New York, including roles with Westinghouse Broadcasting and CBS. Cury began his television career as an Account Executive at Petry Television in New York City. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Communications from American University in Washington, D.C.

TEGNA operates 64 television stations across 51 U.S. markets and is owned by Nexstar Media Group, although it continues operating independently under a federal court order issued in April.
