NBC’s streaming news channel NBC News Now began simulcasting an hour-long news block from London-based sister channel Sky News this week.
Starting Monday, “Today with Wilfred Frost” began streaming live on NBC News Now as it aired on Sky News. The shows is streaming in the United States at 5 a.m. Eastern Time (2 a.m. Pacific Times), and is also available through Sky News International, the global streaming variant of Sky News, on platforms like Xumo Play, Pluto TV and The Roku Channel.
“Amid unrelenting and consequential news events from around the world, we are pleased to partner with our colleagues at Sky News in bringing the most informative premium news from top journalists across the globe to our viewers,” Janelle Rodriguez, the executive vice president at NBC News who is in charge of NBC News Now, said in a statement.
The simulcast builds on a close relationship between the newsrooms at NBC and Sky News since Comcast acquired Sky Group’s business in October 2018. Programming from Sky News simulcasts on NBC News Now and sister cable network MSNBC during periods of breaking news, but the pick-up of Today with Wilfred Frost marks the first time that NBC News Now has dedicated a time slot to Sky News programming.
Frost — the son of former British TV host and journalist David Frost — is no stranger to Comcast or NBC: He joined CNBC as a correspondent in 2014, and anchored “Closing Bell” on the business-oriented news channel until 2022. He will continue to produce his daily, topical news broadcast from Sky’s main studios in the Osterley neighborhood of London.
“We’re delighted that Sky News Today with Wilfred Frost will be NBC News Now’s first program originating from out of the U.S., and that more people around the world will be able to watch our award-winning journalism,” David Rhodes, the chairman of Sky News Group, said in a statement.
Sky News is available as a free-to-air terrestrial and satellite channel in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. The streaming variant of Sky News, called Sky News International, offers much of the same programming as the U.K.-based network, except advertisements are replaced with news clips and automated weather bulletins. Sky News International is free to stream in over 200 countries, including the United States.
NBC News Now produces more than 12 hours of original, national news content that is free to access through the NBC News app on phones, tablets, smart TVs and through the NBC News website. NBC News Now is also available as a free streaming channel on popular platforms like Local Now, Fox’s Tubi, Comcast’s Xumo Play and Peacock, Paramount’s Pluto TV and Google-owned YouTube. A variant of NBC News Now is distributed via some of those same free streaming platforms in Europe and other markets.
