Sinclair, Inc. has joined the Entertainment Identifier Registry (EIDR), an industry group that offers unique identifiers for audio-video content across different media supply chains.

As part of its commitment to EIDR, Sinclair’s Associate Vice President for Media Management Mike Palmer will join the organization’s board of directors, where he will serve a one-year term, the company affirmed on Thursday.

“EIDR captures the complex relationships between descriptive metadata and registered media in a public standard that better enables Sinclair to build rich and unique content experiences that entertain and inform the communities Sinclair serves,” Palmer said in a statement.

Sinclair will utilize EIDR’s metadata technology to manage and distribute content in a more-effective manner, the company affirmed. That includes creating improved workflows, enhancing content discoverability and unlocking new opportunities to optimize returns on various content investments.

“We are delighted that Sinclair has decided to join the EIDR Board of Directors,” Hollie Choi, the managing director at EIDR, said on Thursday. “Sinclair’s unique perspective within the industry and steadfast commitment to innovation make them an exceptional asset to the EIDR Community.”

Sinclair joins a growing list of other media and entertainment companies whose members are part of the EIDR board, including Google’s YouTube, Nielsen’s Gracenote, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Amazon’s MGM Studios, Paramount Global, Comcast’s NBC Universal, Warner Bros. Discovery, the Walt Disney Company and TiVo’s parent company Xperi.
