Warner Bros Discovery is raising the price of its Discovery Plus streaming service, according to a notification sent to subscribers on Tuesday.

The cost of the ad-supported Discovery Plus plan will increase from $4 per month to $5 per month, while the price of the commercial-free plan will go up from $9 per month to $10 per month, with the increases taking effect between now and February 7.

Most Discovery Plus documentaries and reality shows are available within Max, WBD’s flagship streaming service that costs $10 per month with ads or $17 per month without commercials. Max is a better option for customers who also want access to shows and movies from HBO, CNN, the Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Turner Classic Movies and TNT Sports, but Discovery Plus remains a separate option for those who just prefer lifestyle- and reality-based shows and documentaries from the Discovery portfolio of TV networks.

Discovery Plus is the latest streaming service to raise its price over the past two years. Other services like Paramount Plus, Peacock, AMC Plus, Starz, Netflix, Hulu and Disney Plus have also rolled out price increases in order to cover the cost of content. Those services also offer ad-supported plans that are lower in price, with the cost of delivering content subsidized by short commercial breaks.

The fact that Discovery Plus is still a thing, when Max is clearly the flagship streaming service of Warner Bros Discovery, strongly indicates that Discovery Plus contributes in a material way to WBD's streaming household count.
