Streamers in New Zealand who use Amazon’s Prime Video to watch films and TV shows can now add a subscription to Apple TV Plus through that platform.

Starting this week, Apple TV Plus (stylized as Apple TV+) debuted on Prime Video Channels in the country at a price point of NZ $15 per month (around U.S. $8.75 per month).

Prime Video Channels is Amazon’s streaming marketplace for third-party premium video services. The marketplace has offered Apple TV Plus in the United States since late last year, and has launched the same video offering in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Spain, Italy and Germany over time.

“We’re delighted to continue to roll out Apple TV Plus on Prime Video with the launch in New Zealand, bringing Prime Video customers an even greater selection of TV shows and films, all in one app experience,” Kally Day, the Vice President of International at Prime Video, said in a statement.

“Prime Video is a first-stop entertainment destination offering a wide selection of premium programming including Amazon MGM Studios Originals, live sports, licensed movies and series, the ability to rent or buy thousands of new and popular movies, and also offers 18 additional streaming subscriptions,” said Daniel Slepak, the Head of Marketplace Prime Video Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. “We are thrilled to have Apple TV Plus and its stellar lineup of content join our entertainment catalogue.”

Apple TV Plus offers access to original shows and movies like “Severance,” “Ted Lasso,” “The Instigators,” “Wolfs,” “The Morning Show” and “Silo,” along with live events like Major League Soccer through its MLS Season Pass subscription.

In addition to Apple TV Plus, Prime Video Channels offers streamers in New Zealand the option to add subscriptions to MGM Plus, Lionsgate Plus, Hayu and Crunchyroll, among other services.

The partnership between Apple and Amazon comes at a time when the former is focused on attracting new subscribers to its streaming service. In addition to distributing Apple TV Plus through Prime Video Channels, Apple has developed versions of its Apple TV app for third party streaming platforms, including Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Samsung smart TVs and Android TV (Google TV), among others.

Prime Video Channels is viewed as a significant way to reach additional streaming customers, particularly for smaller or niche-oriented services. According to a report from measurement firm Antenna, Amazon and Prime Video Channels were responsible for 58 percent of sales to third party streaming services during the first half of 2024.
