Roku is turning its signature animated screensaver into a venue for original programming with the launch of “Live from Roku City,” a new interactive content experience debuting Thursday with a live performance from Grammy-nominated artist Demi Lovato.

The new initiative marks Roku’s first major push to transform its popular user interface, which is seen in more than 90 million households worldwide, into a destination for exclusive content. “Live from Roku City” combines music, storytelling, and interactive engagement within the familiar purple skyline that has become a hallmark of the streaming platform.

To launch the series, Roku has partnered with Lovato, who will perform her new single “Here All Night” from her forthcoming album, along with a cover of Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody.” Users can explore Roku City’s skyline and select interactive buildings to access the special performance and additional content.

The experience also includes a dedicated on-platform showroom featuring behind-the-scenes footage, exclusive photos, Lovato’s personal streaming recommendations, and a pre-save option for her upcoming album.

“With Live from Roku City, we’re doubling down on what makes our platform special,” said Charlie Collier, the President of Roku Media. “Roku delivers TV’s broadest reach environment, and with the addition of original video storytelling for the first time in Roku City, we’re also providing TV’s biggest stage. Demi Lovato is an artist who has thrived on authenticity and a steadfast dedication to her fans, and we’re showcasing both in the first of many new ways artists can shine at scale on our platform.”

Lovato said she was excited to return to Roku for the launch. “I’m beyond excited to partner with Roku again to give the first taste of a live performance from my new music era. ‘It’s Not That Deep’ represents an electric energy I’m feeling about life right now, and I can’t wait to share that with everyone Live from Roku City,” she said.

“Live from Roku City featuring Demi Lovato” was produced by Good World Creative and London Alley, with direction from award-winning filmmaker Hannah Lux Davis and executive production by Brandon Bonfiglio. The project was overseen by Brian Tannenbaum, Head of Roku Originals.

Roku plans to expand “Live from Roku City” with additional performances and interactive experiences in the coming months.
