Philo is deepening its investment in data-driven streaming by partnering with Reelgood to power content metadata and catalog intelligence across its U.S. service, the companies announced this week.

The wallet-friendly streaming service will integrate Reelgood’s platform directly into its machine-learning infrastructure, giving its product and data teams access to daily refreshed metadata, cross-platform insights and historical availability data.

Reelgood tracks more than 300 streaming services in over two dozen countries and maintains a database of more than 4 million titles. Philo said that historic data will help it better track which shows and movies are available across apps and inform the service on its own content licensing, acquisition and programming strategies, helping it stay ahead of the curve in those respects.

“We needed a metadata partner that could support our machine learning work at the level of quality and coverage it requires. We chose Reelgood because of the depth of its metadata infrastructure, which is central to how we build content understanding and a recommendation system,” said Sai Vuppalapati, the Lead Product Manager of Data and Machine Learning at Philo. “We love that its cross-platform signals give us a meaningful view into what’s trending outside our own network.”

Reelgood aggregates and standardizes metadata using proprietary machine learning models, continuously updating streaming availability across hundreds of services. Its platform also applies AI-driven taxonomy to ensure consistent genre and sub-genre classification, allowing streamers to use structured data across recommendation systems and audience segmentation.

For Philo, access to cross-platform signals provides visibility into which titles and genres are gaining traction across the broader streaming ecosystem. That data can be used to refine recommendation logic and guide content acquisition as viewing trends shift.

“Philo’s experienced teams understand that any recommendation engine is only as good as the metadata feeding it,” David Sanderson, the founder and CEO of Reelgood, said in a statement. “They came to us for complete, deduplicated coverage refreshed daily. And its content team came for the historical availability for every show and movie, so it can make licensing decisions based on evidence, not guesswork. We’re seeing more teams reach the same conclusion.”

Edward King, the Chief Product Officer at Philo, said Reelgood’s enhanced data foundation will help the company support different long-term catalog strategies and near-term product evolutions.

“Reelgood will help us better understand what our audiences want to watch and how to connect them with it. That means stronger recommendations across the content we already carry, and identifying gaps in our library where viewer demand is heading, so we can go out and acquire it,” King said on Tuesday. “High-quality machine learning depends on high-quality metadata, and Reelgood gives us that foundation.”

Philo is widely supported on smart devices, including phones, tablets and Internet-connected TV sets. The service offers more than 70 top-tier cable networks that distribute entertainment, knowledge and lifestyle programming, including channels from its investor-owners Paramount, Warner Bros Discovery, A+E Global Media and AMC Global Media, with its packages starting at $25 per month.

Its higher-priced programming package, which costs $33 per month, includes access to ad-supported shows and movies from AMC Plus, HBO Max and Discovery Plus. Add-ons include access to Starz, MGM Plus and an expanded assortment of movie channels at varying price points.

Philo also offers more than 100 free, ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channels from a number of content programmers, which are available in its paid and free service tiers.
