
The top global streaming services all increased their video libraries during the first five months of the year, according to a new report released by Nielsen’s Gracenote.
The five core streaming services — Netflix, Amazon’s Prime Video, Paramount Plus, Disney Plus and Apple TV Plus — beefed up their TV show library and increased their offering of live sports content during the second quarter (Q2) of 2025 when evaluated against the first three months (Q1) of the year.
Overall, Netflix was the service that grew its catalog the most, with its content library increasing 18.2 percent in Q2, Gracenote said. The amount of sports-related content offered by Netflix rose by more than 22 percent, while TV programming was up nearly the same.
Apple TV Plus was in a distant second place, with its library increasing nearly 4 percent, boosted by an uptick in sports programming with the start of Major League Baseball (MLB) and Major League Soccer (MLS). The amount of live sports programming on Apple TV Plus jumped 25 percent, while TV programming increased nearly 5 percent.
Prime Video was in a close third place, with 3.2 percent more content compared to Q1. Sports programming increased 5 percent on a sequential basis, while TV programming was up nearly 5 percent.
Disney Plus and Paramount logged a 1.6 percent increase and a 1 percent increase respectively.
Bill Michels, the Chief Product Officer at Gracenote, said the report demonstrates that leading subscription video on-demand, or SVOD, players continue to make investments in their content offerings, even if the type of content available across services varies.
“Regardless of program type or any other attribute, effective content discovery helps streamers connect viewers to the entertainment they’ll enjoy most and get the most value out of each of the assets in their catalog,” Michels said.
The data collected for the report originated from the Gracenote Data Hub, which provides interactive visualizations of subscription video content across supported platforms. The data is offered based on a variety of different elements, including country of origin, mood trends and program genre, among others.
Four of the five leading SVOD providers evaluated by Gracenote increased their offering of sports between Q1 and Q2, with the growth averaged around 8 percent. Paramount Plus was the only one to reduce the amount of live sports on its platform; sports-related programming dipped nearly 9 percent when compared to Q1.
Amazon, Disney and Netflix are currently the leading platforms offering live sports programming within their SVOD services, accounting for 92 percent of all available sports programming on connected TV, Gracenote said.
The average growth of TV show libraries available across the five measured services was nearly 7 percent, while the average growth of film content was up 4 percent.
When combining the three different types of content categories — TV shows, sports and films — Netflix is the leader among the five services, accounting for 20.1 percent of all content available on streaming services, Gracenote reported, an increase of nearly 3 percentage points compared to the prior quarter.
