Viral content website BuzzFeed has started searching for a new editor-in-chief to take over HuffPost, a social-focused news blog it is acquiring from Verizon Media, according to a job posting reviewed by The Desk on Wednesday.

The job hunt comes nearly a month after BuzzFeed agreed to acquire HuffPost (formerly known as the Huffington Post) from Verizon in an all stock transaction. The deal includes a content-syndication agreement as well as the possibility of digital advertising partnerships between the two companies.

Last month, BuzzFeed said it would launch a search for a new editor-in-chief to lead HuffPost, with both websites falling under the overall leadership of BuzzFeed’s founder Jonah Peretti.

BuzzFeed began soliciting for the top editor role this week. In its vacancy notice, BuzzFeed said it was seeking “a visionary editor-in-chief to lead [HuffPost’s] U.S. news operation.”

“We are looking for a leader with a clear command of journalism, especially on the social web; a demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to covering issues of race and multiculturalism; and a deep understanding of politics,” the job posting said. “Our new editor-in-chief needs to lead and inspire the entire newsroom, which includes not only reporters and editors, but copy editors, designers, and experts in social platforms.”

BuzzFeed said the editor-in-chief would need to help the company integrate HuffPost within its operation “in terms of technology, product development, revenue generation and culture.”
