Fox Corporation and Google-owned streaming service YouTube TV have reached a new deal that keeps Fox’s broadcast and cable networks on the service for a few more years.
The deal covers the Fox News Channel, Fox Business Network, Fox Sports 1 (FS1) and Fox Sports 2 (FS2), along with Fox-owned stations and Fox affiliates across the country.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The deal was reached late Thursday evening, one day after Fox’s prior contract with YouTube expired and one day before its temporary extension was set to lapse.
“We’re happy to share that we’ve reached an agreement with Fox to keep their content on YouTube TV, preserve the value of our service for our subscribers and offer more flexibility in the future,” a YouTube spokesperson said in a statement. “This means that Fox channels, including the Fox Broadcast Network, Fox News, and Fox Sports, remain available for our subscribers along with 100+ channels and football fans will not miss any of the action this weekend.”
Both sides had initially accused the other of being the catalyst for a potential programming-related blackout. YouTube TV said Fox was demanding higher fees for its channels, a move that would have led to subscriber fee increases. Fox accused Google of exerting its market dominance to demand unfavorable terms for itself. Neither company offered specific information beyond that.
Fox recently launched its own streaming service, Fox One, that offers access to its broadcast and cable channels for $20 per month. YouTube TV subscribers have access to Fox One as part of their programming package, and are able to watch Fox’s content streams through the Fox One app by using their YouTube TV usernames and passwords.
