Comcast’s Sky News has announced a new partnership with the Washington Post that will see the global television news channel use an artificial intelligence-driven content platform developed by the digital media company.
Specifically, the partnership will see Sky News integrate the Washington Post’s Arc XP into its newsroom workflows and editorial output, including its apps and website.
The arrangement is part of a broader strategy at the channel called Sky News 2030, a five-year program that is intended to redevelop the channel into an omniplatform global news powerhouse using new forms of technology, including artificial intelligence. Under the Sky News 2030 banner, the company aims to create a faster, smarter and more flexible platform that adapts to how audiences now discover and consume news.
Arc XP, used by more than 2,000 sites globally, will provide the technological backbone for this transition. The platform powers the Washington Post’s “Ask the Post AI” chatbot. Sky News said Arc XP’s experience in integrating AI and automation into newsroom workflows was a major factor in its selection.
“As technology continues to change how audiences find and engage with news, we want to make sure Sky News remains the trusted destination for verified, high-quality journalism with premium customer experiences,” said Andrew Thomson, the Executive Director of Business Operations at Sky News. “Arc XP brings world-class expertise and technology that will help us accelerate that vision.”
Matt Monahan, the President of Arc XP at the Washington Post, said the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to innovation and audience engagement.
“Today’s audiences are active participants in the news experience. They expect to engage, question, and contribute,” Monahan affirmed. “We’re proud to partner with Sky News to innovate with AI and open new channels for dialogue that deliver more relevant, meaningful experiences to their audiences.”
The initiative forms part of Sky News’s bigger-picture artificial intelligence strategy, which aims to use emerging technology to enhance, rather than replace, journalism. The network said AI would support reporters, improve user experience, and strengthen trust in British journalism at a time when misinformation and AI-generated content are proliferating online.
Sky News is widely available on free and premium TV platforms in the United Kingdom. A version of the channel, called Sky News International, offers the same programming via a free content stream and is available in more than 200 countries and territories around the world.
