Weigel Broadcasting and pay TV platform DirecTV have announced a renewal of its distribution agreement covering certain multicast networks, and the deal includes national distribution of the retro cartoon channel MeTV Toons.
Starting June 30, DirecTV’s satellite and streaming subscribers will be able to watch MeTV Toons on Channel 295, Weigel said in a press release. The Desk previously reported that DirecTV would offer the national feed of MeTV Toons on satellite and streaming.
The deal involving distribution of MeTV Toons is the first of its kind to involve a traditional pay TV provider with a national footprint. The network is also available on broadcast TV in most parts of the country, and on streaming platforms Philo and Frndly TV.
“Viewers have fallen in love with MeTV Toons, which in just its first year has attracted a passionate and loyal audience,” said Neal Sabin, the Vice Chairman of Weigel Broadcasting Co. “It is exciting to further extend the network’s national reach. With its broad multigenerational appeal, we know MeTV Toons will bring incredible entertainment and joy to DirecTV subscribers around the country.”
“DirecTV and Weigel have always found innovative ways to work with one another to create mutual value,” said Linda Burakoff, the Senior Vice President of Content & Programming at DirecTV. “Based on early fan response, we know there are many customers who’ve been very anxious to see MeTV Toons so we are very pleased to make it available to our streaming, satellite, and genre pack subscribers.”
DirecTV carries a number of other Weigel-owned multicast channels, including the flagship MeTV channel and Heroes & Icons.
