Digital video technology firm Bitmovin has released a new software developer kit (SDK) that aims to cut down on the amount of time it takes for media publishers to build and launch their native video applications.
In an announcement released Wednesday, Bitmovin said it was rolling out Bitmovin React Native SDK v1.0 for the Bitmovin Player, an update that adds full support for Expo SDK and React Native’s New Architecture.
Developers using the open-source Expo platform to build React Native applications can now access enhanced capabilities in rendering, responsiveness, and integration speed across Android, Android TV, iOS, and tvOS. A new Expo configuration plugin replaces multiple manual steps with a single configuration process, designed to streamline setup and reduce the likelihood of errors.
The update also adds new debugging capabilities. Developers can now debug directly within React Native DevTools via Chrome, allowing them to identify and resolve playback or integration issues without slowing the development cycle.
Bitmovin React Native SDK v1.0 is fully compatible with React Native’s New Architecture. The Bitmovin Player API remains unchanged from previous versions, allowing existing users to upgrade without modifying current workflows.
“Our focus with this release is to improve the developer experience with simple and easy-to-use tools that can integrate into existing video workflows with significantly less code,” said Stefan Lederer, the co-Founder and CEO of Bitmovin. “As a result, our customers will be able to make their services more mobile-friendly and provide their audiences with the superior viewing experiences they expect and deserve.”
Bitmovin said the update is designed to ensure integrations are compatible with the latest frameworks as the legacy React Native architecture is phased out. The company said this release will allow teams to adopt the new architecture without altering their existing development processes.
The Bitmovin Player is used for video playback across multiple platforms, and the new SDK extends that functionality to developers working within Expo and the updated React Native environment.
