Key Points
- A new membership plan from CNN will include several linear content streams.
- CNN Stream effectively replaces CNN Max, which is being pulled from HBO Max in November.
- Pay TV customers will be able to watch CNN’s streaming content without a membership.
A new membership service rolled out by cable news outlet CNN on Tuesday includes a handful of linear content feeds, including one that offers a simulcast of shows from the domestic and international versions of the channel.
Subscribers of the new plan, called CNN All Access, will be able to stream shows like “Early Start,” “CNN This Morning,” “The Lead with Jake Tapper,” “The Situation Room” and all of CNN’s prime-time programming as part of their membership, which costs $7 per month or $70 per year.
The shows will be offered through a new content feed called CNN Stream, which resembles CNN Max, the feed offered to subscribers of HBO Max. CNN Max is shutting down in early November as CNN markets the All Access plan to fans of its news channel.
CNN Stream will also curate programming from CNN Headlines, the free, ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channel that is already available on a number of platforms like Pluto TV, Xumo Play and Plex. “CNN Headline Express” will stream at 7 a.m. Eastern Time and 11 a.m. Eastern Time. CNN Headlines and another FAST channel called CNN Originals will also be available within the CNN app to All Access subscribers.
CNN International will also be available to CNN All Access subscribers between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern Time, the company said.
Customers of eligible cable, satellite and streaming cable-like services will be able to watch all streaming content within CNN All Access without having to purchase a separate membership, though they’ll need to fork over at least $7 per month if they want to read content that is paywalled on the CNN website and associated apps.
