Spectrum News has expanded its local news footprint with the launch of Spectrum News Georgia, a 24-hour network providing statewide coverage with hyper-local focus areas including Atlanta, Athens, Lawrenceville, McDonough and Smyrna.
The channel is now available to customers of Spectrum TV on local Channel 1, as well as the Spectrum mobile app and smart TV apps. The network offers localized headlines every 15 minutes and weather updates every 10 minutes.
In a statement, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp praised the launch of Spectrum News, saying it will serve residents of the state with more local information.
“From continuous weather updates to breaking news, we look forward to Spectrum News Georgia helping our citizens and their families receive the information they need statewide,” Kemp said last week.
Uche Uwah, a veteran journalist with more than 25 years of experience, has been appointed Executive Producer of Spectrum News Georgia. Uwah’s career includes tenures at WPEC (Channel 12, CBS) in West Palm Beach, WSVN (Channel 7, Fox) in Miami, Hearst Television in Oklahoma and WRC-TV (Channel 4, NBC) in Washington, D.C. Before joining Spectrum News, he spent three years at WCBS-TV (Channel 2) in New York City, where he helped launch a prime-time newscast for the network’s affiliate in Atlanta.
“My experience covering the Atlanta region has prepared me for the important role that Spectrum News’ community-focused reporting will play for Georgians,” Uwah said. “Viewers across the state will benefit from Spectrum News’ trustworthy and balanced coverage, provided by local, on-the-ground journalists and the network’s extensive reporting from across the country.”
Spectrum News Georgia’s local reporting team includes Georgia native AJ Douglas, who will cover Atlanta with a focus on Cobb and Fulton Counties, and Jasmine Casimir, who will report from Henry and Newton Counties. The network’s approach mirrors Spectrum’s broader model of embedding journalists in the communities they serve, emphasizing coverage shaped by local concerns and perspectives.
According to the company, Spectrum News averages 1.8 million daily viewing households across its linear and digital platforms, making it the most-watched news network among Spectrum subscribers, surpassing local affiliates of ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC, as well as national cable outlets including CNN, Fox News and MSNBC in the markets where Spectrum TV operates.
The Georgia expansion is part of Charter Communications’ broader investment in local journalism. In recent years, Spectrum News has launched several new regional networks, the national streaming channel Spectrum News Plus, the Spanish-language Spectrum Noticias and a connected TV news app available on major platforms. The Spectrum News mobile app has surpassed 5.5 million downloads, Charter confirmed in a statement this wek.
