Weigel Broadcasting will air a special marathon of “All in the Familiy” on its retro television network MeTV this weekend in tribute to late actor and film director Rob Reiner, the company announced on Tuesday.
The marathon block will air on Sunday, December 21 between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. Eastern Time for broadcast, cable and streaming viewers, Weigel said. (West Coast affiliates of MeTV will also air the marathon block at 10 p.m. local time, on account of MeTV’s time-shifted feed carried by most local broadcast stations.)
Reiner and his wife Michele were killed Sunday afternoon in their suburban Los Angeles home, according to local news reports. The Los Angeles Police Department later announced the arrest of their son, Nick Reiner, on charges of murder. Rob Reiner was 78, and his wife Michele was 68.
Reiner had numerous guest roles on shows like “The Andy Griffith Show” and “The Beverly Hillbillies” in the 1960s before landing his breakout role as Michael “Meathead” Stivic, the son-in-law of comedic bigot Archie Bunker on All in the Family in 1971.
The sitcom ran for nine seasons on CBS, holding the number one spot in the Nielsen ratings among prime-time shows from its second to sixth season and attracting more than 20 million viewers on Saturdays (except in the sixth season, when the show moved to Mondays).
Weigel is one of several networks that has licensed the show in syndication, with episodes typically aired during a two-hour block that starts at 8 p.m. Eastern Time on Sundays.
