Houston television reporter Shannon Ryan is leaving the Lone Star State for a new opportunity in Washington, D.C., where she will join Spectrum News as its new Congressional reporter, the company announced on Monday.

Ryan joins Charter’s Spectrum News from KTRK (Channel 13), the ABC-owned station in Houston, where she spent more than two years serving as a City Hall reporter and fill-in anchor, the company said in a statement.

Prior to her time in Houston, she worked at Fox Television Stations for nearly four years, joining in April 2019 as a multimedia journalist before moving to KTBC (Channel 7) as a general assignment reporter with a specific focus on local crime news.

Washington is not unfamiliar to Ryan: She previously served as a morning news anchor for WDCW (Channel 50), the Nexstar-owned local news station serving the Capital Beltway. Her other roles include internships and reporting positions at outlets like the Big Ten Network, ESPN and Catholic News Service; she was also a reporter and photojournalist for the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro as part of a college internship program offered by the Associated Press.

Ryan’s new role at Spectrum News will involve reporting on Congress for the company’s regional news channel in New York City, Spectrum News 1 NY, and its upstate channels branded as Spectrum News 1 New York.

Charter did not say when Ryan’s new job will begin.
