Mike Shumann, who covered the Golden State Warriors basketball team for San Francisco ABC station KGO-TV (Channel 7), published a statement on Saturday announcing his amicable split with the news outlet.

In April, Shumann was seen on surveillance video stealing a jacket belonging to Ralph Walker, a security guard for the Golden State Warriors. The theft occurred in San Antonio where Shumann was assigned to report on a road game.

Shumann was placed on leave after the theft was reported by the sports blog The Athletic. A KGO-TV spokesperson told the website that the station was “taking these allegations very seriously.”

On Saturday, Shumann confirmed in a statement that he and KGO had parted ways.

“It is with sadness that I announce that (KGO-TV) and I have decided to amicably part ways after 24 years together,” Shumann wrote. “I regret any embarrassment I have caused the station. My recent actions do not reflect the high standard of conduct expected at KGO. Nor do they represent the integrity with which I have conducted my professional sports and broadcast careers.”

A KGO-TV executive thanked Shumann in a separate, one-sentence statement on the anchor’s departure.
