Google-backed streaming TV service YouTube TV has added Spanish language networks Univision, Unimás and Galavisión into its core programming lineup, the company announced this week.
The channels are available to view immediately, the company said, and will not result in an increase in fees beyond what YouTube TV users already pay, which is $65 a month.
On Wednesday, the company also announced it would add a Spanish-language package with a handful of other networks, including Estrella TV, Fox Deportes, CNN Español and Discovery en Español, for an extra $6 a month.
Prior to the announcement, Spanish programming on YouTube TV was relatively sparse, limited mostly to Telemundo and Universo, both owned by Comcast’s NBC Universal.
The move comes as YouTube TV seeks to compete against other streaming services, including Fubo TV and Dish Network’s Sling TV, which have offered some Spanish-language cable networks for a while now.
It also comes as other streaming services, including wallet-friendly Philo, have weighed their own approach to offering Spanish channels in an attempt to lure more subscribers to their services. The Desk first reported on Philo’s interest in adding a Spanish-language package of programming in July.
