Hulu to move Boomerang from base live TV package

Streaming service Hulu is moving the retro cartoon channel Boomerang out of its base live television package, with customers expected to fork over more cash if they want to continue watching the channel.

This week, Hulu began notifying customers of its Hulu with Live TV product that Boomerang, owned by Warner Bros Discovery (WBD), will only be available in the Entertainment add-on package, which costs an extra $8 a month.

It wasn’t clear if the change was orchestrated by WBD or Hulu’s parent, the Walt Disney Company. Programmers routinely move channels from a lower tier of service to a more-expensive package based on viewership data, with lower-rated channels typically costing customers more to access.

Other channels owned by WBD, including Cartoon Network, CNN, TBS, TNT, the Discovery Channel and Animal Planet, will continue to be available in the base Hulu with Live TV package, which starts at $70 a month.

Customers who do fork over the $8 a month for the Entertainment add-on package will unlock more than a dozen other channels, including CNBC World, BET Her, Discovery Family, Discovery Life, MTV 2, Nicktoons, Science Channel, Magnolia Network, the Cooking Channel and Great American Family.
