Nexstar Media Group has announced a new home for the CW Network in America’s eleventh-largest television market.
On Monday, officials at Nexstar said the CW affiliation will move to KAZT (Channel 7) in Phoenix after a long run on E. W. Scripps-owned KASW (Channel 61). KASW became an independent station last November.
“We’re pleased to enter into this agreement with KAZT-TV, especially since Arizona will once again be a battleground state in this year’s Presidential election,” Andrew Alford, the president of Nexstar’s broadcasting division, said in a statement. “We’re looking forward to helping KAZT-TV expand its service to Phoenix-area viewers and forge an even deeper connection to the community. We know that adding the live sports and entertainment programming of the CW Network will enable KAZT-TV to establish new and meaningful relationships with a variety of advertising and marketing clients.”
As part of the deal, Nexstar has agreed to enter into a local marketing agreement with KAZT owner Londen Media Group. Nexstar says the local marketing agreement will mean the company owns or operates television stations in 10 of the largest 15 markets.
The CW Network affiliation is expected to move to KAZT on February 1.
