Diamond Sports Group will sunset most of its telecast agreements with Major League Baseball (MLB), the regional sports broadcaster informed a federal bankruptcy court on Wednesday.
As part of the move, Diamond Sports intends to retain the rights to air games played by the Atlanta Braves, while parting ways with other MLB teams that are carried on its Bally Sports-branded channels.
The move will impact around a dozen MLB teams whose games were set to air on Bally Sports through 2025. Those teams include the Anaheim Angels, Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, Miami Marlins, St. Louis Cardinals and Tampa Bay Rays. Additionally, Diamond Sports says it will not renew its one-year contract with the Cleveland Guardians, Texas Rangers and Minnesota Twins.
The matter was brought up during a court hearing on Wednesday, during which attorneys for the MLB said they were surprised by the move and had “no opportunity” to review Diamond’s request.
