The E. W. Scripps Company has promoted the sales director of its south Florida broadcaster to serve in the new role of station director.
Charlie Slaight will take the new role at WFTX (Channel 36, Fox) after serving in the sales director position for three years. He previously worked in sales roles at other broadcast outlets owned by Nexstar Media Group, Meredith Group, Tribune Broadcasting and Sinclair, Inc.
In the station manager role, Slaight will oversee the day-to-day operations of WFTX. He will continue to lead the sales division while also taking on additional duties across different business units within the station.
Slaight holds a Masters of Business Administration degree from Rochester Institute of Technology and a degree in communications journalism from Slippery Rock College in Pennsylvania.
WFTX broadcasts on Channel 36 in the Fort Myers area, but the station brands itself as “Fox 4,” reflecting its position on local cable TV platforms in the south Florida region. Scripps acquired the station in 2014 from Journal Communications as part of an all-stock transaction. WFTX is a sister station of ABC affiliate WFTS (Channel 28) in Tampa Bay and WPTV (Channel 5, NBC) in West Palm Beach.
