Comcast’s new national sports channel NBCSN is now available on its own Xfinity TV service, about a week after it launched on Google-owned streamer YouTube TV.
The channel offers live coverage of athletic events from NBC Sports and Peacock, including spillover games from the National Basketball Association (NBA), Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), NASCAR, Major League Baseball (MLB), English Premier League and other franchises.
NBCSN is effectively a revived version of the former cable channel bearing the same name, which shut down at the end of 2021 as part of NBC Universal’s strategy to offer more sports on Peacock.
The new incarnation of NBCSN is intended to offer cable, satellite and streaming pay television customers a destination for watching events from Peacock on linear TV, rather than forcing them to switch apps for pay for a standalone service. The thinking is, by offering a dedicated linear channel on pay TV, NBC Sports will increase the reach of its national sports broadcasts — something that is supported by ratings data collected over the past few years.
On YouTube TV, NBCSN is available in its base programming package, which starts at $83 per month. On Comcast’s Xfinity, the channel is available in the lower-priced “Sports & News” package, which is available through the Xfinity Stream app for $70 per month. Xfinity TV customers can also access the channel in the Popular TV package, which varies in cost depending on the location of the subscriber when taxes and fees are factored in.
Next year, NBCSN will offer a simulcast of Peacock’s “Gold Zone” whip-around channel for the Olympics, as well as select live Olympic competitions.
