The Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission (LASEC) has named the Fox-owned Los Angeles duopoly of KTTV (Channel 11) and KCOP (Channel 13) as an official media partner, which will allow the station to offer deeper coverage and promotions of several regional sports events like the FIFA World Cup next year and Super Bowl LXI in 2027.
Under the partnership, the two Fox-owned stations will provide coverage and storytelling around the major events coming to Los Angeles, with an emphasis on the cultural, creative and community-driven elements that position the market as a global sports and entertainment hub, LASEC said in an announcement on Friday.
The partnership is designed to spotlight both the high-profile events and the organizations and local stakeholders that support and deliver them. As part of the agreement, KTTV will use its linear and digital platforms, including Fox Local, to spotlight the partners and community groups involved in staging large-scale events while also informing viewers about opportunities for Angelenos to engage with what LASEC has described as an unprecedented decade for the region. Coverage will begin ramping up ahead of the FIFA World Cup’s return to the United States next summer, marking the tournament’s first appearance in the country in 32 years.
For Fox, it creates synergy with its high-value sports programming: It will serve as the official English-language broadcaster of the FIFA World Cup men’s soccer tournament next year, with some events taking place in the Los Angeles area. Disney’s ABC and ESPN have the rights to the Super Bowl in 2027, but Fox airs Sunday afternoon football games that could determine which teams make it into the playoffs for the chance to go to the Super Bowl. Fox and Disney are also partners on a streaming bundle that offers live sports to fans through ESPN Unlimited and Fox One for $40 per month.
“We’re proud to welcome Fox 11 as our Official Media Partner at a time when Los Angeles is preparing to host some of the world’s most iconic events,” said Kathryn Schloessman, President & CEO of the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission. “With their support, we can recognize the organizations that make it all possible and celebrate the unique opportunity our region has over the next three years.”
“We are honored to partner with LASEC during this historic and thrilling year for Los Angeles and to provide Angelenos with a backstage pass to the most prestigious events and sports happening locally and on the world stage,” said Amber Eikel, the Senior Vice President and Regional General Manager of Fox’s owned-and-operated stations in California. “We are ready to highlight our communities, as well as celebrate each momentous occasion leading up to, during and after the World Cup and the Super Bowl.”
