Dish Network’s premium streaming television service Sling TV has incorporated subscription service Discovery Plus into its platform, the companies announced on Monday.
Sling TV subscribers can now access more than 70,000 episodes of general entertainment, lifestyle and knowledge programming from Discovery Plus, which includes programs aired on the flagship Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, Science Channel, Travel Channel, HGTV, Oprah Winfrey Network and partner content providers A&E, History Channel and Vice TV.
In a statement, a Sling TV spokesperson said customers who have a Sling TV subscription or who watch the free, ad-supported version of the service can sign up for Discovery Plus from within the app at a cost of $5 a month. For an extra $3 a month, customers can access a commercial-free version of Discovery Plus. The prices match what Discovery charges for access to the Discovery Plus app.
Less clear is how long Discovery Plus will be available within Sling TV: Earlier this month, executives at Warner Bros Discovery said Discovery Plus will be discontinued next summer along with sister-service HBO Max, with the content libraries of each service being incorporated into a new streaming service that has yet to be named or priced.
