Streaming television service Vidgo has added local Univision and UniMás stations in most markets as part of a refresh of its Spanish-language programming package.

The package, which relaunched this week, is called Vidgo Más and offers around four dozen live-streaming television networks priced at $40 a month.

In some ways, Vidgo Más is a callback to the streaming service’s roots, which began several years ago as an online platform for live sports like soccer that draws a significant Spanish-language audience. Derek Mattsson, Vidgo’s chief executive, said building out that tier of programming was a critical part of Vidgo’s mission in reaching diverse audiences across the country.

“More than 53 million people speak Spanish in the U.S., yet these audiences are often overlooked,” Mattsson said in a statement. “We could not be more excited to bring thousands of hours of popular Spanish-language content as we establish Vidgo as the go-to streaming destination for the Latino community.”

After existing as a low-cost prepaid streaming service for several years, Vidgo retooled its business strategy earlier this spring to target underserved and underrepresented viewers. One specific focus is reaching cord-cutters in the heartland of the country who are more likely to select a service with a robust offering of college sports, cable news and knowledge-based channels, which Vidgo offers.

Two base packages, called Plus and Premier, offer more than 100 channels of news, sports, knowledge and general entertainment programming from a handful of content partners, including Warner Bros Discovery, Paramount Global, the Walt Disney Company, Fox Corporation and A+E Networks.

Many of the English-language channels carried by Vidgo are widely found on competing services, including Hulu with Live TV, YouTube TV and Dish Network’s Sling TV. But most streaming cable TV replacements reserve Spanish-language channels in an add-on package, and force customers to purchase a more-expensive base tier of programming before they can add-on Spanish channels.

Vidgo is one of the few services that does the opposite, offering over 45 channels of Spanish-language content in a package of its own. In addition to channels from TelevisaUnivision, Vidgo Más offers Bandamax, Canal Sur, Fox Deportes, ESPN Deportes, Discovery Familia, WAPA America, Estrella TV and Galavision.

Like most streaming services, Vidgo taps into the prepaid, pay-as-you-go model where customers spend $40 a month to access Vidgo Más for 30 days. The company doesn’t require a contract, and the service is widely accessible on most smart television platforms, including Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV (Google TV) and Apple TV, as well as for Apple- and Android-powered smartphones and tablets.
