Dish laying off nearly 160 workers in wireless division

Dish Network is implementing a fresh round of layoffs that will impact nearly 160 workers at its corporate campus near Denver.

The layoffs were first made public in a notice filed with Colorado’s Department of Labor and Employment earlier this month, in which Dish affirmed it would let go of 157 employees.



Most of the impacted positions will be in Dish Wireless, its fledgling startup telecom that incorporates elements of its Boost Mobile business acquired from T-Mobile several years ago.

The job losses include around 80 senior-level representatives at Dish Wireless and more than two dozen customer service and technology representatives, Dish said.

Dish expects the layoffs to be completed by early March.

The pink slips are the first to be issued since Dish Network merged with its former parent company, Echostar. The merger was finalized at the start of the year, with the combined business employing around 14,000 workers.

Prior to the merger, Dish Network laid off nearly 500 employees across its business, which includes the flagship satellite service and its streaming product Sling TV.
