A holiday payroll glitch meant some employees of Tribune Publishing went without their regular paychecks this week.

The glitch, first reported via a memo obtained by media columnist Jim Romenesko, affected employees of the newspaper company who regularly receive their pay via direct deposit.

According to the memo, Tribune employees were supposed to be paid before the Christmas holiday. But an error with their payroll processor meant some employees wouldn’t be paid until banks reopened after Christmas.

The memo said customers of large national banks like Chase and Bank of America might make their paychecks available on Saturday, while those who bank with smaller regional institutions and local credit unions might not be paid until Monday.

“The company will ensure that all employees who have been adversely affected through overdrafts or other bank fees will be reimbursed,” the memo said.

Tribune Publishing is the newspaper arm of the former Tribune Company and operates major national newspapers like the Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times. The publishing side of the company split from the broadcast side last year.
