After spending nearly a decade in Sacramento, Ty Steele has revealed the next stop in his career: The Motor City.
This week, Steele announced he is joining Graham Media’s WDIV (Channel 4, NBC) in Detroit, where he will work reprise his role as news anchor.
“Moving to the Motor City is an incredible opportunity, and I can’t wait to connect with the vibrant community here,” Steele said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to telling the stories that matter most to you and shining a spotlight on all the amazing things happening in this great city.”
Steele’s work in Sacramento started in July 2015, when he joined Nexstar-owned KTXL (Channel 40, Fox) as an evening news anchor. He switched teams and shifts in 2018, signing on at Hearst’s KCRA (Channel 3, NBC), where he worked as a morning and mid-day news anchor until resigning last month.
In a message to KCRA viewers, Steele said his departure was based on a new opportunity, which he did not reveal at the time.
The move to Detroit brings Steele to the 14th-largest TV market in the country (by comparison, Sacramento is the 20th largest TV market). A graduate of the University of Washington’s journalism program, he started his career at Sinclair-owned KVAL-TV in Eugene, Oregon before moving to KMTR in nearby Springfield.
